Over the past few years, the revival of religion has taken on spectacular and, in many ways, frightening dimensions … Is it a revival of spirituality? If it were, we could only welcome it with open arms. Is it a revival of faith? That wouldn’t be a problem either. Unfortunately, it is all too often accompanied by dogmatism, obscurantism, fundamentalism – and sometimes fanaticism. It would be a mistake to leave the field to these forces … it is a struggle for freedom … in favour of the separation of church and state, in favour of the freedom to believe or not believe.

Andre de Compte-Sponville, The Little Book of Atheist Spirituality, Viking Press, 2006.

Ideological purity. Compromise as weakness. A fundamentalist belief in scriptural literalism. Denying science. Unmoved by facts. Undeterred by new information. A hostile fear of progress. ‘The Greater Fool’, episode 10, series 1, The Newsroom, HBO Entertainment, 2012.

And then girls post photos to “out-hot” the other girls by porn star criteria.

They wore blouses with buttons down the front that suggested the possibilities of the word undone. These women could be undone; or not. They seemed to be able to choose.
