showed them a map about atomic bombs. The destruction shudders out like a spin-dye t-shirt. Suddenly Tiny doesn’t care if Meryl sees the body or not. Instead, she wants to make Meryl some food.
Meryl likes peanut butter and marmalade sandwiches, with the crusts cut off like she is a child. We are all children sometimes. In this scenario, Tiny would be the mother. She would cut the bread on a diagonal, differently than usual, so that after Meryl finished the meal and heard the news, she would know that even when everything is different, some things taste the same. She would not know this in words, but maybe that wouldn’t matter. Tiny thinks breaking the news over a meal is a good idea, because if your stomach is working, you can’t forget your body. The table needs to be cleared, and if you can’t do it yet, that is a reminder too. Digestion is the process of taking something that wasn’t you, but turning it into you anyway.
