7. Former Classmates
ОглавлениеWhen we came back home from Diane’s party, Dan fell asleep immediately.
He snored so funny and loudly, that I recorded his artistic snore in order he would be able to listen to himself later on. He was snoring constantly, and sometimes I couldn’t sleep because of this. But he didn’t believe me that he did it so super loudly and wildly, so next morning he had a chance to listen to the recording. Dan was so much surprised when I gave it to him. He listened to his recorded snore several times, laughed, shook his head and then he asked me, jokingly:
– Are you sure Vika, that it was I – your awful hubby? Or maybe it was just a Californian bear, who snored so funny near the bedroom?
– Yes, dear. I’m sure. It was you, clumsy bear, in the bedroom. Who else could it be?
– Was I so drunk, honey? I drank a lot of beer with Nick, as I remember. Did I mix beer with anything else? And who was driving back home?
– You.
– I? You let me do that?!
– You didn’t ask for my permission, Dan.
– I’m sorry, dear. Did I hurt you?
– No, do not worry.
Dan took a quick shower and walked around the house doing nothing.
He drank a lot of ice water and talked to himself: “Weird, I can drink the sea dry… And I can’t remember anything…”
But there was something that he did remember pretty well.
– Vika, did you like my former classmates?
– Yes, I liked them. They were funny and tried to impress me.
– We grew up together. We were neighbors. We went to the same high school and played different instruments at the school orchestra. We spent together a lot of time out of school as well. Do you remember the picture of five handsome skinny boys by the campfire? Nick, Ronny, his brother, Johnny and I.
– Oh yea. Funny boys!
Dan went to his computer desk and brought me the picture.
– Look again. It’s I, Nick, Ronny, his brother, and the skinniest one is Johnny.
– Great picture.
– John always was skinny and sporty. He was a shy, modest boy, a very smart and talented one, though. He was fond of music since his childhood. One day his dream came true, and he became a professional musician after graduating California State University. John is a very good arranger. He is constantly going on tours with different popular American rock-bands.
– And his family?
– He is a great father of three wonderful sons-teenagers. After divorce he couldn’t find his new soul-mate and for the last two years he had a new hobby – religion. John always offers me free tickets to the concerts and performances of well-known popular rock bands. We can go, if you like, any time, Vika. And it’ll be free. Deal?
– Of course, dear. Deal. And another your classmate, funny Ron? – I asked Dan.
– Ron? Oh, Ron… He gained weight very quickly in his late twenties. He is beer-addicted. Since childhood he was a little cheeky and bad-mannered. And what is interesting, later all the girls wanted him and were crazy for him. They fell in love with him from the first sight. – Daniel was so talkative. – There was a lot of love drama in his life, but he has never been married and still single. He is an unchanging bachelor and playboy.
– Local Casanova? A lady-killer?
– Did he tell you of his European tour, Vika?
– Just a few words.
– Ha, he boasted, didn’t he? Ha! You know, he went to Germany to have fun with prostitutes.
– Come on…
– Yes, he did. Ronny is not a popular man among American women any more, nobody wants him in this country at all. And he is… hmm… such an incredible fucker. A son of the bitch! So, he has found another solution for his problem.
– Problem? – I was astonished hearing this from my husband. – Dan, are you kidding? You do not need to go to Germany or somewhere else so far away from the US to get a prostitute. They are everywhere.
– Ronny says that the best prostitutes are in Europe. Nobody kidded him about his paunch there. Everyone adored his huge dick. And, yeah… his dick is really super good. – Dan laughed.
– Ronny didn’t tell me a word about hmm… his dick, Danny. Be sure! – I smiled. – He just asked me to teach him Russian.
– What? He’ll get by without Russian! He has no money to pay for this. He spent all his money in Germany. But soon he’ll become a new Californian millionaire. His mom recently passed away from cancer. Ronny and his younger brother look forward to the moment when their mom’s money is at their own disposal.
– Does he work?
– You know, he has been a librarian for all his life, just for fun. And he is happy. He loves his job; however his income is not so big. He is a professor of American modern history and he lectures in some local colleges from time to time. Sometimes for free.
– Wow! It’s exciting.
– Yes, but his dream is to relocate to Germany, the sooner the better. He has a lot of relatives in Munich, as his father is German. So, in a few months, with million dollars in his pocket, Ronny will be able to do everything he has planned and desired. And I’m happy for him because he is a very good guy.
Dan thought for a while and then asked me.
– Vika, did you like Diane’s party? A lot of unknown people were there yesterday. Was it boring?
– No, Dan. For me it wasn’t boring at all. I loved Diane’s party. Thank you and my special thanks to Diane.
– Okay then. – Dan was pleased.
– And do you have any thoughts about Diane’s mood during the party, dear? What was wrong with her? She looked so upset and depressing when we were leaving her house.
– Yesterday night Diane received a few unexpected texts and weird phone calls; it made her extremely disappointed.
Dan thought over.
– Oh, I can see.
And I remembered how nervously Diane deleted the unknown cell phone number.
