2.8.3 Parallel Structure

A parallel structure is functioning as long as at least one of its blocks is able to function. The RBD of a parallel structure is shown in Figure 2.13. For this structure, there are different paths between the end points (a) and (b). The structure is functioning if any one of these paths is functioning. This means that the structure is functioning if at least one of the blocks is functioning. The parallel structure can be represented by the Boolean expression: The parallel structure is functioning if block 1 OR block 2 OR block is functioning.
