Multiple Ways to Blend a Classroom

Оглавление

That is a fairly vague definition, isn’t it? The incredible thing about blended learning is its flexibility. Blended learning can look different based on your individual classroom, school, and students. I like to think about blended learning as a spectrum (Figure 1.1), with completely face-to-face, traditional classrooms on one end and online classes for distance learners on the other end. Any combination of the two along this spectrum would be blended learning.

1.1 Blended learning happens on a spectrum. It is any combination of online learning and traditional instruction. Some blended classrooms use a lot of online learning, relying heavily on it, and others use just a little online instruction.

All along this spectrum are formally defined models of blended learning (Figure 1.2), ranging from minimal to extensive use of online learning. If you are interested in learning the specifics of these models as defined by the Clayton Christensen Institute, check out the “Models of Blended Learning” sidebar.

1.2 There are multiple formal models of blended learning that fall along the blended learning spectrum.
