Enriched Virtual

Оглавление

The Enriched Virtual Model uses online learning as the primary vehicle for instructional delivery. This method of instruction allows the students to complete the majority of their work outside of a traditional brick-and-mortar setting. Because it is still a blended learning model and not fully online, students are asked to come for face-to-face learning sessions at specific times. Online learning is the primary mode of learning, and the face-to-face opportunities in a brick-and-mortar setting supplement that learning.

Generally speaking, when programs or classrooms are created with a large percentage of online learning incorporated, as on the right side of Figure 1.1’s blended learning spectrum, these are innovative solutions created for alternate student populations. Districts and schools around the world are creating opportunities for students that create multiple pathways to success, especially for those learners who are not finding the success they could in a traditional setting. In these situations, online learning can be used strategically to give students the greatest amount of flexibility, allowing learners to engage with their classwork at their own pace and sometimes outside of a traditional school building with a teacher facilitating that instruction in a self-paced environment.

Blended learning also has a place in classrooms where students are finding success and with students for whom a traditional setting is a good fit. In these settings, however, it is best to stick to blended learning on the left side of the spectrum. Online instruction and assessment paired together is one tool that can help amplify and enhance learning in a classroom. In a traditional classroom, moving students through full online courses at their own pace is often not a necessary strategy or the best use of the teacher in a brick-and-mortar setting. The good news is the forms of blended learning that make sense for most general classrooms can usually be implemented within your classroom, regardless of the structure of your school or district and within the constraints of an established curriculum and mandated standards.
