Bargaining With the Devil

Оглавление

Nicotine is a slippery foe and will outflank you if you are not aware of some of the subtle ways that it can worm its way back into your life. There are two tactics which you should be particularly aware off which nicotine throws at you as a last ditch effort to trap you again. These two cloak-and-dagger tactics are to bargain with you or to sneak back into your life via complacency.

By bargaining nicotine will communicate with you (via your subconscious) by asking yourself questions like: “If I just have one with a beer when I'm out with friends it should be okay, right?” or “Perhaps I can smoke just one cigarette in the mornings with my coffee?” Which will be music to your ears and sound like a 'fair compromise', until you find yourself having 10 cigarettes with beers out with friends, or coffee and cigarettes throughout the day.

Complacency is nicotine addictions number one pal. It is by far the easiest way to upset the applecart and smash your plans to quit smoking. One small slip, such as being confronted with a stressful situation in life and having 'just one', will catapult you back into nicotine dependency. Make a promise to yourself now that no matter how stressful a situation, even a death in the family, being made redundant, failing at something or any other stressor, you will never use nicotine as a crutch to fall back on.
