4.3 What happens when the application is approved?

Оглавление

If the application is approved, you will be asked to send your passport to the Canadian visa office where you applied, in order to receive the permanent resident visa. You will also get a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) document that you must have with you when you enter Canada, along with a valid passport.

When you arrive at the point of entry to Canada, you will have to present your COPR document and visa to a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer. Make sure to pack your documents in your hand luggage and have them easily accessible.

If you are bringing more than $10,000 with you in whatever form, you must disclose this to the officer. Failure to disclose your funds may result in a fine, confiscation of the funds, or even imprisonment.

If the CBSA officer decides that all your papers are in order, he or she will authorize you to enter Canada as a permanent resident. You will also receive a useful guide with important information for newcomers. Your Permanent Resident Card will be mailed to you (usually after four to six weeks) at the Canadian address written on the COPR, so make sure that the address is correct. You will be given a copy of your COPR document. Make sure you keep your COPR in a safe place as you will require this to renew your permanent residence status and/or apply for citizenship.
