Commander of Nature
ОглавлениеIn fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”
—Luke 8:25b
When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people.
—2 Chr 7:13
• A popular series of movies was based on seemingly ordinary people who had the power to command wind, water, fire, or storms because they had supposedly evolved to the next level of humanity. While we know existence of such X-Men is pure fantasy, it is entertaining to imagine having these kinds of abilities.
• God actually has such powers. Jesus displayed them in his life when he calmed the wind and the waves in the storm on the Sea of Galilee. And unlike the X-Men, Jesus was not restricted to one power—he is master of all powers. Animals do God’s bidding, as Noah undoubtedly discovered, for the animals presented themselves at God’s bidding to book passage (Gen 6:20).
• Reflect on the truth that all things yield to God’s will. Every living thing harkens to his voice and obediently carries out his wishes, as does the very creation itself. We need fear no thing, no person, no force of nature—for they are God’s to command.
