The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies.

—Ps 118:6–7

• One of the names given to Jesus was Emmanuel, meaning “God with us.” From the time of the tabernacle and temple of the Old Testament to the coming of Jesus and the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit, a theme of the Bible is that God wants to be with us.

• Praise God for his continued presence with all who trust in Christ. Not only are we never alone, but the One with us is none other than God Almighty, with all his power and might. No one can touch us without God’s say-so. We are invincible until he removes his protecting hand from our lives.

• Praise our abiding God: “Jesus replied, ‘If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him’” (John 14:23).

• Rejoice that God promises, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Heb13:5b).
