My greatest debt is to my friends, colleagues, and coauthors—Rick and Becky DuFour—who continue to influence generations of students, teachers, and education leaders around the world.

Solution Tree Press is a collaborative enterprise that brings together ideas, authors, and readers. I am grateful for their continued support and particularly appreciate the support of Christine Hood, senior production editor; Douglas Rife, president and publisher; and Jeff Jones, chief executive officer.

—Douglas Reeves

My work on this manuscript has been very bittersweet. This is the last book that my late husband, Rick DuFour, coauthored before his death on February 8, 2017. I have vivid memories of our collaboration with one another and with our wonderful friend and coauthor, Doug Reeves, on this important project in the final months of Rick’s life. Rick was so hopeful that this book would guide educators and policymakers at all levels to understand the opportunities the Every Student Succeeds Act offers and to embrace our collective responsibility to ensure that every student truly will be successful in school and set for success in life. I, too, am hopeful and proud to be a torchbearer of the PLC at Work™ process, a powerful continuous improvement process that ensures learning for all U.S. children and the adults who serve them.

Rick and I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Jeff Jones, the CEO of Solution Tree, and to the entire Solution Tree and Solution Tree Press families. Solution Tree has supported, advanced, and published our work for almost twenty years. Although most of the Solution Tree staff members are not professional educators, they work tirelessly to provide the ongoing professional learning that must occur as educators strive to help all students learn at high levels. Please visit www.solutiontree.com/about/overview to learn more about Solution Tree and its vision of transforming education worldwide.

Like Rick was, I will be forever grateful for the amazing team of PLC at Work associates—currently about 140 members strong—that Solution Tree continues to grow and support. I learn so much from these dedicated practitioners who have led the PLC process in their own settings and are willing and able to share their time and expertise with other educators, often at the expense of time with their own families. Please visit www.solutiontree.com/presenters/l/professional-learning-communities-at-work-trade.html to meet the members of this amazing team of professional educators.

Finally, I want to acknowledge and honor the educators who devote their life’s work—their time, energy, passion, and expertise—to making a positive difference in the lives of every student entrusted to them. Your work is difficult, demanding, and so very important. To quote my all-time favorite author and teacher, Rick DuFour, as he ended every keynote presentation in the last few years: “I believe in you. Godspeed.”

—Becky DuFour
