Classical Approach to Regression

Оглавление

The relation between an independent variable and a dependent variable using regression analysis is classically depicted as a line drawn through a scatterplot of points.1 In many disciplines, regression analysis is used primarily to examine the relationship between continuous/interval variables.

A problem for students in the social sciences with this approach to understanding regression is that it does not relate to what the students first learn in the typical statistics course. Social science statistics courses usually start with concrete basic statistics, not with abstract statistics like regression.
