Hello the owners! My name is Sergey Grey. I’m a fantasy writer. And I glad so much if you reading my book. I’m not a professional translator but I really want to present you the world of Meriel and discover it with you. So I had a try to translate my book into English from my own language. This book is free for reading at my wattpad in English and in Russian and at different network resources but you also can support me and buy this book. The writing is a pleasure but it’s a hard work too.

This book is a prequel to the saga of “The Fates of Meriel. Origins” The story will tell about the predecessors and ancestors of the heroes of the first book and the future book “Two Queens”. You can get acquainted with it, both after reading the first book, and separately from it. I hope I will can translate the first book coming soon.

Events will affect the ancient era before the cataclysm that destroyed part of the mainland Meriel. Then the world was completely different, both in structure and in the natural landscape.

The Elvins, who admired the people of our time with their grace and sophistication, were then only dregs in the hierarchy of the Elfinate – an alliance of two elven kingdoms, the eastern country of the people – Gladia – it was very young and small, and the nudars still lived on the continent, not moving into almost unsuitable for life Isstyle.

The ownership – is a force that affects the world of matter, was a great gift, although it has the limits of what is permitted. But in the current Meriel, it doesn’t exist anymore. Although the echoes of this power, which we now call magic, are found centuries later in the first book. For example, Livya – the elvin can communicate with animals with one thought, Aurora uses magic cards, and some of the redrins are excessively strong… All this is just grains of its former power… But who knows, maybe the magic is ready to wake up again and return to the new owners?

I note that Meriel was originally conceived in his device, a natural world similar to ours, without grandiose magic at every turn. Now, many years later, my task is to fill in some gaps of the last book, clarifying certain events, and make the “magical” world canonical for a future that has already been defined.

You will read about Varlag’s youth before he became a true evil. And what led him to destroy Meriel, the elves, and the ownership.


The Owners and the Ownership

Meriel in our time is not the same as it was before… The largest continent of the world, Oira, which stretches from east to west and from south to north, is buried in the greenery of forests, full-flowing rivers wind among the fields that give a bountiful harvest, magnificent cities give safety and prosperity to all residents. The grace that the Elfinate created on this earth allowed everyone to be here in peace and harmony. The alliance of elves, nudars – their northern brethren and, who came only a couple of centuries ago from the east, humans – was productive and powerful. A trade, a crafts and a science revived the greatness of Mariel, strife and war now there was no place.

At that time, the world was full of ownership, now, centuries later, we often call this power: magic, witchcraft and sorcery. Every corner of the earth was imbued with spiritual energy. Those who were given the opportunity to cling to its source, used ownership for the benefit of all things. Elements obeyed skillful owners, which helped to develop mines, build cities and roads, collect rich crops, preserve forests and hunting grounds, live without knowing the cold and hunger.

But one day everything comes to an end. And any actions have consequences.

And so the beginning of a new era will come – the era of the fall of the Elfinate and the death of the Old World, which will never recover from these wounds and can no longer be the same.

In order to begin our journey, we need to know something. After all, it will be a question of a force that is no longer in Meriel, and knowledge of its use, like many names, is now lost.


About the ownership

The energy of the spiritual world that is napping: even in a pebble and in a blade of grass, and in a mountain range, and in a dense forest, in a drop of rain and in a vast ocean, it can be awakened and used both for harm and good. And the owners, or they are also called carriers, can become a beacon for this force, directing it to the world of matter, thus influencing reality.

Ancient legends tell us: about flights, about moving for miles in an instant, about becoming dragons, about illusions and haze, about resurrection from the dead, and even that time can be turned back or speed up. But these are just fairy tales, they reflect the desire of storytellers and bards to impress listeners or readers, embellish their own narrative, giving a flight of ours and their imagination. Ownership is not so limitless, but not just as it may seem. To master it requires a lot of time and hard work, both spirit and body.

Calidia – ownership of temperatures – high and low.

Shidia – the ownership of water and wind.

Terrestry – the ownership of earth.

Ferra – the ownership of metal, a variety of terrestry.

Arba – the ownership of plants, a variety of terrestry.

Conxuria – the anti-magic, there are places to be names: neutralization or absorption.

Vakkari – the ownership of impact on animals

Escura – the ownership of darkness.

Luxis – the ownership of light and healing.

Podrema – the ownership of a changes in the body, is considered a type of escura.


Classification of common owners:


Calidite (Calidites) – the carrier is able to change the temperature, both for their bodies and for what is around: causing cold or heat. A common form of power – to betray everything around the flame or immersed in chains of ice? There are two specializations among humans and elves, however, it all depends on the nature and nature of the wearer, and nudars possess only cold skills. As a rule, the owner can either raise the temperature or lower it. Exceptions when Calidite can do both this and this are rare, such carriers are called combinators. This ownership is used for battles, but in peacetime he will find many uses. Sophisticated Calidites – can control the air temperature in such a way that the climate of the harsh regions becomes softer for growing crops and easier for life, but it does not turn into a sultry desert with scorched earth.


Shidite (Shidites) – the carrier controls the water and the wind: relieves bad weather, encourages rains and thunderstorms, helps sailors. Possession has two uses – in naval battles, to summon storms, and also for crop growth. Equally distributed among all races.


Terrestr (Terrestrs) is a carrier of earth’s ownership: Terrestry can cause trembling, destruction and rock explosion, and create crystals – precious and magical stones. It is used both for battle and for mining, stone processing and jewelry. It is quite common especially among people, less common among nudars and even fewer terrestrs among elves.


Ferrodite (Ferrodites) is a carrier of metal possession. A variety of Terrestry. It is found less often than the above-mentioned forces, mainly – it is distributed among nudars, but other humans also owned it.

It is used for mining and processing ore, creating products and weapons from metals.


Arbor (Arbors) – the carrier of the ownership of plants, allowing them to grow at an incredible speed. It is also a type of terrestry. Widely distributed among the elves who made Meriel so green and gracious.


Classification of rare owners:


Conxur (Conxurs) – an absorber of ownership: can neutralize the effects of already used magical power or even prevent its use. A rare ability, but was more common among all the humans of Meriel than the following. Usually, but not always, conxurs do not own other ownership or it is very weak. Their mission is to protect the kings.


Vakkar (Vakkars) – the owner of animal magic that can control the mind of animals. It can calm the beast or infuriate it, and it affects most redrins. Vakkari will have an effect on complex creatures with a developed brain; it does not affect worms, snails, insects and fishes.

This ownership is very ancient, belonging to the original beastmen. Given the expulsion of the redrins from Meriel after the victory of the Elfinate, there are very few historical and reliable data on the vacancies.

Other nations, if they possessed this power in rare cases, could only understand the language and thoughts of animals, but could not influence their behavior with the power of ownership. More often there were false vakkars, issuing artful training of animals for carriage for their own selfish purposes.


Escuride (Escurides) is the owner of darkness: it awakens the darkest in any creature, obscures thoughts, causes pain and suffering, both soul and body, is characterized by destructive power in relation to the animate and inanimate. A rare and dangerous kind of ownership, if other carriers draw strength from the earth, air, water, trees and everything that surrounds them, and their bodies are just a vehicle, the escuride use the life force of their own body, which mercilessly collapses. Holders of the magic of darkness envy other specializations, because their abilities are not a gift, but a curse. The force is unsuitable and forbidden to use, and if you try to curb it, the eskuride will die during training before it reaches adolescence. History knows only one person who capable of enhancing his escura by absorbing the life of other living beings. Nevertheless, the power devoured his own body, though a little slower. The carrier can be any of the peoples, including the jarhis – the most mysterious inhabitants of Meriel.


Luxor (Luxors) – a carrier of healing light. Ownership is inversely proportional to the nature of the sketch: the more and more often the luxor uses his power, the stronger he becomes, and his body and life become stronger. It inspires hope, heals illnesses and heals wounds, but it is not able to resurrect the dead. A very rare species that appears only in pureblooded elves.


Combinator (Combinators) – the carrier is able to combine several varieties of magic, usually two, most often there are Calidian combinators, equally capable of both lowering and raising temperatures. In childhood, the combination in its infancy is present in most carriers, but the dominant force replaces the one that is weaker. Meriel’s history is not known for the equivalent use of more than two specializations.


Podrem (Podrems) – the carrier causes the growth and mutation of the body, its individual parts and tissues, inept handling can often lead to uncontrolled growth, decomposition and decay, applicable to oneself in order to grow growths on the body – even and symmetrical formations determine the skill of the podrems and their noble origin, and to other creatures – which can cause their incredible change or death. A rare ownership, even among the jarhi, to which only they are capable. The Jarhis are an ancient eastern race, who have no kinship or cultural values with any of Meriel’s inhabitants. About them there is little that was known then, and now even more so.

Most likely, they arrived in Meriel from Other Side of Oira long before the redrins and elves.

Those who happened to visit their country said that they live in winding caves, breed huge beetles instead of cattle, increasing them with their drowsiness, and worship a huge underground worm with an unpronounceable name – Uubhmaa.

According to legend, Uubhmaa was once the queen of the jarhis that used her power to protect the people from the swarm of Krenis – giant insects that ravaged her kingdom. She became higher than the mountains and brought her power to the creatures, but could not return to her original form, becoming an ugly monster hidden in the bowels of the earth.

Holluna is the land of the jarhis, separated by impregnable mountains and their state has always remained neutral, although in difficult days it participated in the life of its neighbors. Other nations feared them and preferred to stay away. Podrema is considered a kind of escura because of its dual and frightening nature, but since only jarhis own it, it is singled out in a separate rare category.


Elvin (Elvins) – half-breeds born from the union of an elf and a human or an elf and a nudar. No other peoples were affiliated with the elves in Meriel. Incest led to the fact that such a child did not own any skills if it was the fruit of the love of an elf and a human. Or his or her skills were weak if he was born from an elf and a nudar.

And if in Gladia – the lack of magical power in a person did not affect the position and attitude of others. In Elfinate, such a child was destined for the fate of a servant or laborer, so the elvins most often lived in Gladia, where the absence of carriage was perceived much more softly and one could rise to a high post.

Elfinate did not impose restrictions on mixed marriages and the birth of such children. Indeed, the more owners, the less valuable this phenomenon.

The presence of the elvin’s caste, dependent on the owners of other levels of the hierarchy of the elven society, was a fundamental principle of maintaining the Elfinate’s system. Initially, marriages between elves and humans were the message of strengthening relations between the two states.

Elvin carriers also met, in whose kind all three peoples were, but they could not prove themselves to be outstanding in ownership. Some of these elvins owned escura – the ownership of darkness, which also could not fix their situation, making them even more outcasts.
