Summary
ОглавлениеDoctors generally understand you may be embarrassed talking about digestive problems – but don’t let this prevent you telling them if you feel awkward.
Use words that are descriptive but cause you least embarrassment.
If you would rather be examined by a doctor of the same sex, request one.
If you feel better having a friend or relative with you, take them to the consultation with you.
If your teenager feels embarrassed by you being there, let them talk to the doctor alone. Obviously it is not appropriate or desirable for younger children to go alone.
If your culture or religion makes certain things like physical examinations uncomfortable, tell your doctor.
Explain your views and thoughts about certain procedures and medicines, especially if they differ from those your doctor may expect to encounter.
