Campus Setting
Augusta is a public, comprehensive university. Founded as a postgraduate academy in 1783, it became a junior college in 1925, was incorporated into the state university system in 1958 and began granting four-year degrees in 1967. Its 72-acre campus is located on a former plantation in Augusta. A four-year public institution, Augusta State University has an enrollment of 7,061 students. In addition to a large, well-stocked library, the campus facilities include: history museum • golf course. Augusta State University provides on-campus housing with 162 units that can accommodate 508 students. Housing options: single-student apartments.
Student Life and Activities
Most students (93 percent) live off campus which does impact the on-campus social scene. Popular campus events include Homecoming. Augusta State University has 66 official student organizations. Academics and Learning Environment

B Student Support and Success
Augusta offers an extensive First Year Experience to help new students transition to college life. Its goal is “to increase retention and help students successfully progress toward graduation.” Participants take classes with other first year students, live together at University Village, have a close support group with mentors, get together for study sessions, attend campus social and athletic events and act as a part of a social support system that helps students meet others and share experiences with others.
Augusta State University provides a variety of support programs including dedicated guidance for: academic • career • personal • minority students • military • veterans. Recognizing that some students may need extra preparation, Augusta State University offers remedial and refresher courses in: reading • writing • math • study skills. Annually, 71 percent of freshmen students return for their sophomore year. Support for Students with Learning Disabilities
Students with learning disabilities may take advantage of specific support programs offered by Augusta State University.
