Throughout the process of writing this book, I found myself revisiting my first few years of teaching and reflecting on their unique challenges, celebrations, and memories. In particular, I remembered my own mentor teacher, Mary Dee Seibold, and what a lifesaver she was for me during that very first—very shaky—year. I have been blessed to have had many extraordinary teachers in my life, including members of my family, Carol Gorman, Patty Spencer, Dr. James D. Marshall, and Sid Rundle. I am forever grateful for the opportunities these educators have provided to help me learn and grow as a teacher, student, and human being.
