Events from the first Passover to Pentecost
UG 44. Answer to the disciples of John on fasting (Mt 9:14—17; Mk 2:18—22; Lk 5:33—39)

Оглавление

44:1 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thy disciples fast not, but thine eat and drink? (Mt 9:14; Mk 2:18; Lk 5:33)

44:2 And Jesus said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast? Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. (Mt 9:15; Mk 2:19; Lk 5:34)

44:3 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. (Mt 9:15; Mk 2:20; Lk 5:35)

44:4 And he spake also a parable unto them; no man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old; for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. (Mt 9:16; Mk 2:21; Lk 5:36)

44:5 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. (Mt 9:17; Mk 2:22; Lk 5:37)

44:6 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved. (Mt 9:17; Mk 2:22; Lk 5:38)

44:7 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better. (Lk 5:39)
