French Canadian Sugar Squares

A maple syrupy homage to French Canadian sugar pie

INGREDIENTS

½ cup of Baked Butter

1 cup of all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons of sugar

¼ cup of heavy cream (or soya cream coconut milk)

1 egg

1 tablespoon of flour

2 tablespoons of Baked Butter

1 cup of maple syrup

1 cup of brown sugar

Grease a 9 x 9-inch square pan. Preheat oven to 350° F.

Cut the ½ cup of Baked Butter into the 1 cup of flour with the 2 tablespoons of sugar. Press the mixture into the square pan. Bake this crust for 15 minutes.

Combine the cream, egg, and tablespoon of flour, with the 2 tablespoons of butter, maple syrup, and brown sugar. Pour this mixture onto the shell and return the pan into the oven.

Bake for another 25 to 30 minutes or until the mixture swells. Cool thoroughly before cutting into 20 squares. One or two squares should get you baked.
