Texture-Making Tools
ОглавлениеMaking textures is such a fun and lively way to incorporate depth and interest into your work, and the good news is that you can use practically anything. Of course, brushes are an excellent place to start. Try using old, splayed bristle brushes and scrub the paint around to see what happens.
Experiment with different tools to get different effects. The end of a cotton bud makes a great 'dot' mark-making tool, for example. An old rag, cotton-wool balls, a brayer (a roller with a handle used in printmaking), a toothbrush or an eraser are also exciting to try out and use.
The main thing is to have fun and build a collection of textures that you can use in your work, either as a library of techniques or as painted papers for collage. You could even scan the textures and digitize them to add texture to your work in Photoshop (see Techniques: Digitizing).
