A FAMOUS WOOD TYPE — CHRISTABEL PANKHURST 6
ОглавлениеWood type Christabel Pankhurst was born in 1880. Along with her mother Emmeline and her sister Sylvia, she is famous for her militant crusade which culminated in women gaining the right to vote. She had a combination of many of the Wood type strategies mentioned above. Like many Wood types she was a ‘justice seeker’ and channelled her assertion into positive rebellion, challenging the rules in order to create social change. She was also a natural ‘structurer’ and was known to be a formidable organizer. Her belief in ‘getting things right’ led her to achieve her aims with one-pointed directness.
As a child, Christabel was brought up in an atmosphere of revolution. Her father passionately believed in fighting for women’s rights. Christabel’s own fight intensified, however, when on deciding to enter the legal profession she found to her anger and dismay that the profession was barred to women.
In 1903, Christabel along with Emmeline and Sylvia, formed the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU). From then on Christabel used an increasingly militant campaign to lobby for the vote. As well as being an impressive organizer, she was also a gifted orator. Her Wood type personality helped her to argue the case for women’s suffrage by speaking all over the country. When speaking to many women’s groups she roused many other women to give up their jobs and dedicate themselves to the cause.
