Resumen
Muchas investigaciones en Colombia han estudiado los sufrimientos y las violencias que produce el conflicto armado. Entre tanto, Las fotografías y sus relatos muestra que, de alguna manera, ha existido otra guerra: contra las mujeres y los niños; a menudo silenciosa, invisible, mas no por eso menos devastadora. De ahí que este libro analice cómo se construye y produce el sufrimiento, por medio de tres casos biográficos sobre mujeres de tres generaciones distintas: abuela, madre e hija, y de trabajo etnográfico, basado en el uso de fotografías como despertadoras de recuerdos y generadoras de historias. Con ello se examina también cómo se afecta la pertenencia a tres tipos de colectivos: el género, la clase social y la generación. El libro destaca, así mismo, la necesidad de visibilizar el sufrimiento de personas que, por su condición de clase o género, tienen pocas oportunidades de ser escuchadas, con la intención de romper con los silencios que llevan a normalizar las violencias cotidianas. Exponer estos sufrimientos —tan comunes, pero tan invisibles— puede constituir, ojalá, un primer paso para dejar de ser cómplices de ellos.

Photographs and Their Stories. An In-Depth Study of Female Suffering
Abstract
Many investigations in Colombia have focused on the suffering and violence caused by the armed conflict. In this context, Photographs and Their Stories highlights that, somehow, there has been another war: a war against women and children—often silent, invisible, but no less devastating. Hence, this book examines how suffering is constructed and produced, by analyzing the biographical cases of three women from three different generations (grandmother, mother, and daughter), as well as using ethnographic work, based on photographs as tools to awaken memories and generate stories. Similarly, it examines how the belonging to three different types of groups (gender, social class, and generation) is affected. The book also highlights the need to make visible the suffering of people who, due to their class or gender status, have few opportunities to be heard, seeking to break the silences that lead to the normalization of daily violence. Exposing these sufferings—so common, but so invisible—can, hopefully, constitute a first step to stop being accomplices to them.
