SPIRITUAL TRADITION
ОглавлениеGod reveals himself through historical events and words, which is why the Bible gives us personal experiences of his saving will especially at the moments of greatest need, such as Israel’s slavery in Egypt and the total disaster of Jesus’ death and burial. God’s saving interventions reveal who he really is and are important for each one of us, so that the teachings that derive from these words and deeds are normative for all believing Christians. Christian faith is a person’s acceptance of this God who saves us and teaches us, whereas spirituality is one’s personal life when lived in the light of this faith.
With these principles in mind, we can look at five Christians who have much to teach us on how Satan acts, namely Saint Anthony the Great, Evagrius Ponticus, John Cassian, Saint Ignatius of Loyola and Saint John Henry Newman. Their personal experiences made them real spiritual teachers for their time and for us in the twenty-first century.
