You conk out as soon as the children are down,

softly snoring while I putter around.

Other nights it’s me asleep first—

whoever is more soul-tired, whoever feels worse.

On your late nights, you’re up till two or three,

and when you come in, you vaguely wake me

fussing with the bathroom door or your phone.

We share a bed but fall asleep alone.

On my late nights, I write, work on a review,

savor my privacy, miss you.

I binge on Netflix and sneak into bed.

You roll over, protecting your head.

We try to talk during crowded weekend days.
