I am, basically, a good person—I know this because not even once have I locked my children in the house alone, gotten in my car, and driven forever.

But I am an artist, I say, as I dump another load of cans into the recycling bin.

Fear knows the story isn’t about anything.

I take out the garbage every Sunday and Wednesday night. And yet, there is always more garbage. So far, there have always been more nights.

I wish I could listen to music all day … I suppose I can, but that’s not what I’m wishing for.

I can’t help but feel that raindrops are targeting me, that puddles shift underfoot to soak my pant cuffs, that my luck is specifically mine.

~

Thirsty, I am lucky enough to have a solvable problem.

~

No grain is too tiny to grind.
