Attaching the shaft to the handle
ОглавлениеGap-filling medium-density superglue is a perfect solution to fixing a shaft in a handle. If I’m using a fresh-cut limb and the wood is still wet, I must move quickly after pouring glue in the hole in the handle and spraying the shaft with accelerator. There is about five seconds before the glue sets. I put the shaft into my vise with the tip horizontal, so I always know it is horizontal inside the form when the handle feels good to my hand. I then dribble the glue in the hole, spray the end of the shaft, and ram the handle on with my hand at the back of the tool where it feels comfortable on the oval shape. Epoxy works just as well, although it’s smart to drill a tiny hole into the side of the handle at the location of the bottom of the large hole to let the epoxy escape; otherwise, the shaft may not squeeze all the way down into the hole.
