Chapter 3: Thy Kingdom Come

Оглавление

The plan to leave was now underway though no one knew of where to go. The street still having crusted over blood stinking over it. The little ones stood inside staring at Tv as their eyes grew numb. The queen and king stand in the kitchen talking as their innocent ones laid in bed trying to sleep away the pain. “Where are we gonna go?” she says adamantly whispering

“We can go to your parent's house” he replies

“They live days away from us and I don't think they’re gonna be able to take that” nodding her towards her children.

“They live in a rural town so they probably don't have the disease and we can just stay for a couple of weeks till everything blows over”

She replies kneeling her head down in tears saying” I want to leave so bad but I fear for their safety. Plus we don't know how everyone is going to act when we leave; we might get robbed or something.”

“If you want to leave so bad then stop caring about the house and care about the ones living here,” he says holding a gentle eye upon his sorrowful wife but still stating strongly.

“The death toll now rises beyond one million as the red flare virus grows in intensity spreading across the world. People have set up shelters and small homes to protect themselves as the world slowly grows rampant with people ransacking those who are less fortunate” the Tv blares disrupting their argument.

They stood staring at the Tv seeing the images of people breaking into stores and hurting one another for small things. The queen contemplates for only a moment before reluctantly deciding that they should leave but on one condition “When we get there I get the bigger bed” as she smiles towards her loving king. He smiles back towards her replying “When do you want to leave” to her quick response “As soon as possible”. “Then we leave tomorrow morning,” he says scared triumphantly.

They go into their children’s room together holding each other's hand. They see them holding each other in bed so much so that their foreheads touch each other with their eyes faced towards each other closed. The sight of crusted over tears going down their faces led to the arrival of a peaceful dream. It looked as though they were at peace in their coexisting dreams. The mommy came in slowly laying down on the floor in front of the bed. She taps on lily waking her to hell on earth as lily turns her body turns her mommy. Lily wipes at her tainted eyes to see mommy sitting with a sad grin with her eyes drew slightly downwards. The room grew quiet as the thought of what has happened keeps passing through both of their heads. The trance broke as the dad walked over placing a hand on his queen. The queen says “Were gonna be leaving from here for just a little while. We’re gonna go stay with grandma. Would you like that?” Phoenix's eyes drew open as he saw his princess’s back faced towards him. He leans over her gently placing a hand on her shoulder continuing to listen to their mommy. The mother sees his face peering over lily as she continues in silence waiting for a response. Phoenix’s head tilts laying on lily’s shoulder waiting for a response. He whispers in lily’s ear uttering “Whatever you choose I’m with you all the way”. The words go into lily’s ears gently swirling around as she says smiling “I would like that very much”. Mommy lets out a sigh of relief as though a dumbbell just lifted from her bruised heart. She stands up slowly and says gently “Get everything you want to bring with you because we’re not going to be back for a while”. She begins to step back as she goes towards the door slowly closing it. “We’re going to leave in the morning” she says no longer wanting to speak. The door closes as you hear their footsteps going away in the distance down the hallway.

Little lily places her feet at the front of the bed stepping onto the soft carpet beneath. Phoenix follows behind standing above her. She stands in silence only staring with her mind trailing off. The thought of blood begins to slowly fill her brain like a breaking dam in the distance. Phoenix grabs and hugs her closely saying “I’m with you always. You’ll never be alone”. The little one wraps her arms around him replying “I know you always will be”. They release from each other's rapturous love as they make their way towards the closet on the other side of the room. Lily grabs her shoes and puts them in a little baggy. Phoenix grabs his shirts and throws them in his own baggy tying it up in a knot. Lily sees the dresses she has in the closet. There was a green, white, and pink dress hanging on the rack. She sat for a moment debating and grabbed the pink dress gently laying it for the morning. They stepped back in bed and laid there eyes to rest on an endless night for the journey ahead in the morning. May their souls rest in peace and begin anew in the morning light.

The world awakens from its slumber to the smell of burning and death surrounding. The sun no longer smiles and the moon no longer arrives in delight. The Tv blares in the living room stating “Cases of red flare virus have now risen to two million cases worldwide overnight; the largest amount we’ve seen in worlds history. We strongly urge for everyone to stay home and to stay healthy. All non-essential businesses have been closed and we are now going to a partial lockdown. Those who believe they are infected with the virus find your nearest doctor and get medical help. Stay safe everyone as we keep you up to date on the latest news.” The house was silent with snores and dreams all about until little lily woke from her restless slumber. Her blue eyes flutter open looking around the room; no longer looking white with color but grey. She gently gives away from phoenix’s grasp in bed and stands on the soft carpet. She could feel the ground beneath her as though it was a cloud feeling all the pieces leaf around her gentle toes. She took one step and felt the ground beneath buckle feeling the tug of the earth. Every step she took was more and more of a tug in each though she kept walking. She made her way to the little pink dress on the floor and bent and grabbed it. The silk slithered through her fingers as she picked it up. She took off her white shirt and threw the soft dress over her body covering it entirely almost touching the floor. She twirled herself in a circle hugging herself. She flowed like a ballerina turning her body. For just a moment she felt the weight of everything disappear only seeing her future kingdom. She felt truly like a princess but it was all cut short as she heard a car rapidly pass by from the window. She jumped at the sound getting brief glimpses of red as it passed down the street. She stood looking at the window then twisted her head pointing away from it. Her eyes peered away looking towards the door grabbing at the handle. She twist the knob blowing a kiss to phoenix still sleeping before walking out. She goes down the hallway making her way towards the kitchen seeing all the doors closed. She looks at the clock situated above the Tv seeing 4:30 as she yawns, eyes drooping downwards. She jerks her head up attempting to resist the hand of sleep grabbing at her. She walks to the kitchen sitting in the chair. She tilts her head forward seeing all the appliances as they begin to turn white with stains of blood. She jerks her head away from the sight. Sleep arrives coming to grab her hand but she resist the touch. It floats above her gently grabbing cradling her whispering “Don't be afraid; i’m here for you”. She looks up to see the face of phoenix looking down at her with his hazel eyes. The peace she feels cradled in her arms as he takes her away. She sees her body sitting in the chair slowly floating away as she looks back towards phoenix gravely closing her eyes.
