To sum up, a defoamer must have

 the capability to penetrate into foam lamellas,

 a low surface tension to spread on the interface liquid/gas,

 a de-wetting effect.

The balance between compatibility and incompatibility (controlled incompatibility) must remain even when the paint is stored for a long time at elevated temperatures.
