Moderately to strongly hydrophobic defoamers are preferred for formulations based on vinyl acetate emulsions. Depending on the area of application, defoamers with different chemistries are used. Mineral oils, natural or synthetic oils or polysiloxanes are frequently used in matt architectural coatings. In architectural coatings with lower PVC, where higher quality finishes and gloss are required, more compatible grades based on modified polysiloxanes or silicone-free polymers are mainly used.
