How do you tell the difference between a good and bad breeder?
Оглавлениеº Obtain basic information from your national Kennel Club or breeding association.
º Get information from dog clubs in your area.
º Talk to owners of the breed you are thinking of buying, find out if they are having any problems and where they got their animals from.
º Talk to your local veterinarian. Owners of dogs that have physical or behavioural problems as a result of poor breeding programmes usually consult vets, so these professionals get a pretty good indication of which breeders are doing the best job.
When you introduce your new puppy to your ‘current’ dog, they’ll need to establish the hierarchy between the two of them. The puppy will usually submit to the naturally dominant, older dog.
Once you have located some reputable breeders, find out why they are breeding. Some breed specifically for show, but success in the show ring does not necessarily mean that the offspring will suit you. Check out the incidence of any inherited conditions in their dogs, and if in doubt get advice about this from your vet.
