Choosing the puppy

Оглавление

Never buy a puppy on the spur of the moment. Plan well ahead, allowing plenty of time for correct selection and preparation for the new arrival.

If possible, visit the breeder before the bitch whelps. Try to see both parents, and visit the puppies regularly during the suckling period. Make sure that you have a choice of puppy, rather than having a particular individual ‘allocated’ to you.

If you don’t want to show your dog, you may be able to obtain a puppy on a ‘pet only’ basis. You pay less for it, but there are conditions attached. These usually state that it cannot be registered as a pedigree dog, it must not be bred from, and (more often applied to a bitch) it must be de-sexed.
