Use of agents that inhibit prostaglandin synthesis can result in premature closure of the ductus arteriosus and oligohydramnios. Doppler velocimetry is useful in assessment of ductus arteriosus closure by determining the peak systolic velocity as well as whether there is continuous flow throughout diastole.
