This textbook is dedicated to the memory of Julie Morris, an animal welfare visionary who was one of the first to recognize the importance of integrating veterinary medicine directly into animal sheltering to improve and save the lives of homeless animals. Her early support of shelter veterinarians and shelter medicine training and programs was responsible for many of the advancements in the field, including this textbook. She is missed tremendously as a mentor, colleague, friend, and leader by the editors of this text and by many others.
