Howard German,

Hampstead, Md.

This basswood chip-carved plate is Howard’s twist

on Bill Johnson’s trompe-l’oeil pattern from

WCI

Spring 2017 (Issue 78). Said Howard, “Just outside the

10" (25.4cm) carved area, and before the flat scalloped

border, is a ¼

" (6mm)-wide half-round ring that was

just crying for some 23-carat gold leaf. Beautiful.”

massive marble twin resides in Madhya Pradesh, India,

for a client in the United States. It is 72" (1.8m) tall and

Megan Hensel,

Farmington, Minn.

A pyrographer for three years,

Megan makes commissioned pieces,

like this boxer trophy, for breed

club shows across the country. Said

Megan, “I don’t think I will ever

tire of pyrography because it is so

versatile. Both my clients and myself

love the look of woodburned art

because it is different than, say, an

oil painting. I can’t wait to see what

I create with it this year!” Find more
