T

his design came from two of my favorite

pastimes: demonstrating woodcarving at a tree

farm during the holidays and stories from the 1920s.

I’ve carved many “trees on a car” ornaments featuring

modern cars but, feeling nostalgic, I decided to carve a

version of my great-grandfather bringing home a tree

for Christmas. This is my version of what I envision

it was like in days gone by. This is a stand-alone piece

rather than an ornament.

I found photos and drawings of Model T cars to

help me develop the basic design. Then, I designed

the evergreen carving attached to the top. I tied the

tree to the car using string to emulate rope. I hope you

enjoy this carving to bring quaint holiday memories

from the past and add to your holiday woodcarving

collection.

Getting Started

Transfer the side and top patterns to the wood and cut

along the lines with a band saw. Then, mark the wood

to remove from the sides above the fenders.
