Five Balls in Cage

Peter Zanauskas made this piece at the

beginning of his carving career, inspired

by a ball-in-cage letter opener his great-

grandfather once carved. The carving

is 11

" long, made of basswood, and

decorated with chip carving.

Blue Planet

by Matthew Petersen of Henderson, Nev.

Inspired by the ocean’s plight, Matthew

Petersen used a rotary tool to carve this

complex tribute to marine life. The stick is

58" long, made from a discarded branch,

and finished with tung oil.
