Conclusions

Оглавление

Experimental studies have shown that uric acid is not an inert waste product of purines catabolism as was previously thought. Instead, it is a pleiotropic molecule with the capacity of inducing deleterious intracellular pathways that result in hypertension, renal lesion, cardiovascular alterations, and metabolic disturbances. In addition, extracellular uric acid can function as an antioxidant, when precipitates also stimulate prooxidant and proinflammatory pathways. However, there are no clinical studies so far that support the use of uric acid-lowering therapy to treat asymptomatic hyperuricemia.
