Thirst
ОглавлениеThe perception of thirst is a complex behavior that drives the desire to drink. Thirst centers have been localized to anterior cingulate cortex and insula [9]. Thirst is triggered when plasma tonicity rises by approximately ∼5 mOsm/kg above the vasopressin release threshold [10]. A higher thirst threshold allows vasopressin titration of urinary water excretion without the need to be constantly drinking. In addition to the osmotic stimuli, decreased effective arterial blood volume mediated by angiotensin II also constitutes an important dipsogenic stimulus.
