Presbyesophagus

Оглавление

Older patients often have intermittent weakening of primary peristalsis and multiple non‐peristaltic contractions in the absence of esophageal symptoms, a relatively common manifestation of aging known as presbyesophagus [136]. In other normal patients, there may be splitting of the barium column at or near the level of the aortic arch with retrograde flow of a portion of the bolus because of weakening of the amplitude of primary peristalsis at the transition zone between the striated and smooth muscle portions of the esophagus, a clinically trivial phenomenon known as proximal escape [136].
