2.2 Revitalization of Physical/Environmental Factors

Оглавление

Many soils present different stages of degradation due to a variety of physical factors acting alone or in synergy. Physical factors such as low temperature, limited soil drainage, unfavorable texture and stoniness, shallow rooting depth, salinity, sodicity, and acidity can induce marginality in soils or reflect a stage of marginality [10]. Depending on the degree of soil marginality, more than one of these factors (and others not described here) may be acting in an ecosystem. In many cases, some factors induce others, causing more pronounced consequences in the balance of a soil ecosystem. This section will discuss physical factors that can be overcome by implementing phytoremediation strategies and, whenever possible, possible links with other biological and physical‐chemical remediation technologies.
