Preface

This compact and easy-to-carry Guide to Healthy Fast-Food Eating contains two main sections. In the first section, you’ll learn how to eat healthier with diabetes (whether you are eating at home or away from home). You’ll also gather skills and strategies on how to eat healthier in restaurants.

In section 2, you’ll find a baker’s dozen (13) of the top fast-food restaurant chains across the nation. This category of fast-food restaurants represents the most popular restaurants, with more than 100,000 locations worldwide. These are the restaurants that people frequent most often. They are also the category of restaurants for which the most nutrition information is now widely available.

In our fast-paced, convenience-focused world, it’s likely that you’ll continue to eat fast-food restaurant meals in your office, at home, or at the ball field. It’s simply the way we are getting the job of eating done. With some skills, strategies, and nutrition facts in your hands, you can reach your goal to eat healthier; control your blood glucose, blood lipids, and blood pressure; and stay healthy for many years to come.

I encourage you to keep asking for nutrition information from any restaurant in which you dine and support legislation that is seeking to require restaurant chains to provide this information. If enough of us keep asking, eventually they’ll give us the facts.
