10. Time: Classified

Оглавление

At some unknown moment this afternoon

The Prime Minister and his family boarded a plane –

Secretly left the country to its flames.

They got themselves a hotel upgrade

A butler and a private beach –

In smokeless Hawaii – and just kicked back.

Until this news broke, we were lost in our dismay.

Our confusion had no focus, our anger no aim.

For a man who gave us nothing – this he gave.

From decades of denialism, years of brain-dead talk

Our anger now had focus, our confusion a name.

Re-energised, we knew now what to do, who to save.

In an age of government so small

That the whole nation could be run

By one daily phone call from Hawaii

We had to be our own government.

We offered each other our own humanity

and in our main streets

Built effigies of dickheads in Hawiian shirts

to mock and by mocking

give a little relief.

And, without leadership,

carried on.
