Gladys road
Оглавлениеwe’d spurt beside the water
chasing turtles, slinging stones
we’d listen to the wind
inviting the trees to tango,
whirling fallen leaves
we’d climb upon the roof
witness the world from above,
then plunge into the soft grass
letting go the boredom of getting caught
we’d bait our hooks with worms
fishing until the sun died beyond the dam,
grab our dinner by the gills,
and stuff ourselves from fin to fin
we’d ride in the bed of the truck
sliding from the gravel road,
catching bugs in our faces
we’d sleep under the stars of blue
while time slackened to a memory’s pace
we’d remember that place
for the rest of our lives,
the castle on the lake
and its king and queen
