There is a hole in my roof, so the contractor arrives. We get into it right away. His second job could be as a professional beer drinker. His first wife, she was a cheater. He enjoys summing people up.

“You’re a thinker, I can tell that.”

His second wife woke up one day and decided she wanted to be somebody. She left him. The Mexicans, he complains, don’t dispose of their garbage properly. Before he leaves, he tells me about his daughter, who has some disabilities. Beautiful penmanship though.
