Early August, British Fireworks Championship, Plymouth. The Hoe is the best vantage point for Plymouth’s annual celebration of colourful explosions. Six teams compete over two nights to be declared Britain’s Firework Champions (www.britishfireworks.co.uk).

Mid-August, Falmouth Week Regatta, Falmouth. Seven days of races in Falmouth Bay for all types of boats – multi-hulls, yachts, dragon boats etc. (www.falmouthweek.co.uk).
