The Book

10 bilingual stories – portraits, descriptions and reports – about Zambia, a country which is easy to spot on a map of Africa because of its embryo like shape. Little known as a holiday destination in spite of its huge potential, vast national parks and the fabulous Victoria Falls in the south-west of the country close to bordering Zimbabwe. It is indeed a useful gateway to familiarize with neighbouring countries of Southern Africa.

The stories reveal the sharp contrast between rich and poor, between tradition and trendiness, between black and white. They feature a country which has only just managed to leap into the club of countries with middle income and whose policy-makers are faced with tremendous challenges after the latest presidential election – to preserve the achievements and reduce the remaining rather substantial poverty.

The Author

For Karin Moder learning to read at school has been a major experience in childhood, and a large number of books have escorted her through life ever since. In the 1990s – besides university and work – the Economics degree holder has written for newspapers such as the “Frankfurter Rundschau“, focusing especially on labour-market topics.

In 2006 her career moved forward towards adult education, counselling and facilitation bringing her into close contact with members of fringe groups. Starting in 2006 she has also been an active blogger, currently contributing to “Neue Schritte” and “highlight story“. Through „Adventure Zambia“ she wishes to provide background information and simultaneously picture people and narrate real life episodes.
