Measuring Engagement

Оглавление

It is not just academic data that matters either. We know from several research studies, some from as early as 1968, that student engagement has a direct correlation with academic success. Fostering engagement, as mentioned earlier, does not mean merely keeping students entertained, but rather keeping them deeply invested in their learning. This affectual data is just as important to track as the data that shows progress toward mastery.

MEASURE WHAT MATTERS

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT TOOLKIT

Chris Young (@ChrisYoungEDU), Strategic Learning Coordinator for the Community School Corporation of Southern Hancock, understands the importance of measuring what matters. To help you track engagement, he created the Student Engagement Toolkit. As Chris explained (2020), “We measure nearly everything else in education—from student grades, assessment data, attendance, and more. How are we measuring interest in our lessons? Are students engaged? In real time, are they even understanding the content?” The Student Engagement Toolkit gives teachers a resource to help answer these questions in real time during a lesson (Figure 2.2). It works with the Plickers app (get.plickers.com), and you can download it from bit.ly/measuremyclass.
