Emotional Health Terminology
ОглавлениеDepression - (major depressive disorder) Is a serious medical disorder that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think, and how you act. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s ability to function normally.
Anxiety - A feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome. Anxiety is your body’s natural response to stress. It’s a feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come. But if your feelings of anxiety are extreme, and are interfering with your life, you may have an anxiety disorder.
Low Self-Esteem - Low self-esteem refers to how you feel about yourself overall. Low self-esteem characterized by a lack of confidence and feeling badly about oneself.
Self-Acceptance - The act or state of accepting oneself: the act or state of understanding and recognizing one's own abilities and limitations. An acceptance of yourself as you are.
Self-Love - Love of self, To value yourself and accept your self-worth.
Suicidal - The thought process of taking one's own life.
Self-Harm - Also called self-injury, this refers to an individual hurting him or herself on purpose such as by cutting with a sharp object.
Bipolar Disorder - Formerly known as manic depression, this mental health disorder causes wide swings in energy, mood and activity levels.
Mood Disorders – More than an occasional bad mood, these disorders can affect a person’s everyday emotional state. They include depression and bipolar disorder.
