Electronic literature incorporates many dimensions, going far beyond the simple word and page. It embraces other elements such as imagery, navigation, movement, and even juxtaposition of phrases to create more meaning. Understanding this in one language is daunting, but translating and embracing all of these elements to truly convey the meaning of a work is a formidable task. Digital poetry does this in a thought-providing way. I hope this book will serve as a bridge to encourage native, born digital works in Catalan.

Reading and writing electronic literature has been my passion, my form of happiness, for nearly all of my life now. I explored what the computer can offer us in Stained Word Windows, Tree Woman, and other such works. My first work, Marble Springs, (Eastgate Systems 1993) explored a Colorado mountain town, and I revisited that world to put it into a wiki for everyone to come and explore and contribute and create with me (http://marblesprings.wikidot.com). Now, I am launching the Rose Project (http://www.thinkingrose.com), which brings the possibilities of new meaning down to a letter level. Each letter corresponds to a concept, and uses several symbols to denote facets of those concepts. You can read about it online and also branch out into paper versions.

With Oreto's insightful guidance, you can learn about new ways to explore meanings and create exciting new forms of literature. This work is a critical step forward for the future of Catalan literature.
