Power consumption runs with brightness, and energy efficiency measures brightness in lumens per circuit watt of power. Typically at least 100 lumens per circuit watt and over 200 for the latest quality. The Building Regulations 2012 energy efficiency standard was for 40 lumens per circuit watt and now five years later it is looking pointlessly out of date. Even so, wasted light is wasted power and money. Directing light where it is needed, in the right levels, is far more important than covering your home in 200 lumens per circuit watt.
