Soaking in the cold bath, Sho sighed in relief as Rei slapped a towel on his sore skin. After multiple days of cold baths in a row Sho had hoped for a hot one to relax in but alas, it would be far too painful to bear with the sunburns he had sustained. Perhaps he truly wasn’t meant for this seafaring life after all.

Gently dabbing at Sho’s skin with the cloth, Rei clicked his tongue in askance. “You’re staying indoors if tomorrow’s sun is as harsh as it has been these two days,” Rei said. He wasn’t giving Sho a choice.

“We’re almost out of food though. And-”

“I’ll get the food,” Rei cut Sho off irritably.

“Are you… are you angry with me?”

“I don’t understand how you’ve lived till now if this is how you take care of yourself,” Rei grumbled. “First you run a fever, then you tell me you can’t swim even though you’ve been at sea this whole time, and then you get these burns and you still want to stay outside even more and make it worse.”

Sho couldn’t help but chuckle at Rei’s grousings. When Rei turned away to rinse the cloth, Sho leaned against the back of the tub and looked over at him. “Maybe I like being taken care of by you,” he grinned.

“Are you saying that this is my fault?” Rei muttered crossly.

“You’re a perk in my predicaments,” Sho replied, merely smiling at Rei when he turned and narrowed his eyes at Sho.

With a frustrated huff, Rei threw the towel back at Sho and marched out of sight, his shimmering robes fluttering after him. Unsettled by how upset Rei seemed, Sho quickly stepped out of the bath, dried off and dressed. Heading to the front of the house, Sho searched for Rei and found him seated on the walkway, leaning against the wall of the house.

As Sho approached Rei, he began to mutter to himself. “I don’t know what’s the point of me being so concerned for you when you don’t even seem to care about yourself.”

“You really don’t have to do this, you know?” Sho said, sitting down next to Rei. “You can just… let me deal with things myself.”

Rei stared at him as if Sho had just said the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard. “How am I supposed to leave you alone like this?” he snapped. “You’ll wreck yourself by the end of the week…”

“No, I won’t,” Sho chuckled, pulling Rei to him. “Why are you getting so worked up? Hm?” he asked gently as he brushed Rei’s hair away.

“Because I care!” Rei flared, slapping a hand on a patch of tender skin on Sho’s calf. “And you’re being reckless!” Sho hissed and winced as Rei continued, “Will it kill you to listen to me and just stay indoors?”

“Mm… If you really insist…” Sho muttered reluctantly and rubbed the back of his neck.

Rei suddenly sprang up, held Sho’s face in his hands and kissed him, surprising Sho. He almost fell back from the momentum but quickly stopped his descent by thrusting an arm behind him. Sho wasn’t sure how to react to this. The last time Rei did this was after he had drunk a bottle of rum. But this time…

Sho was about to return the kiss when Rei suddenly pulled away. Hands still cupping Sho’s face, Rei looked him in the eye with a serious expression and said, “One more thing. Never, ever, ever go onto the water without me.”

“But I’ve been fine so far, haven’t I?” Sho protested.

“You’ve been lucky,” Rei retorted. “What if you fall in when I’m not around and the waves swallow you?” he challenged. “I’ll never see you again…”

“It’s a good thing you’re coming with me when I leave then,” Sho smiled, attempting to placate Rei. Perhaps this afternoon’s close shave was a little too close for Rei.

“Sho…” Rei’s hands slid to Sho’s shoulders, distress in his eyes as he gave Sho a squeeze. Looking away, Rei put a hand on his forehead, over his eyes. “I… What am I getting so upset over…” he muttered with a sigh and his lips in a wry expression.

Sho leaned forward and put his arms around Rei, letting Rei rest his head on his shoulder. He didn’t know what to say as Rei let out another sigh while making himself comfortable in the space between Sho’s legs. Looking out to sea, Sho noticed that neither the moon nor the stars could be seen tonight. Clouds were probably responsible for that.

As a chilly wind blew inland, Rei sat up and turned to face the sea as well. After a moment, he said, “Sho, let’s go inside.”

“Do you think it’s a storm?” Sho asked, slightly worried. If the weather was too violent, neither of them will be able to head out to gather food.

“Maybe,” was the only answer that Rei offered while his eyes were fixed on the sea as if trying to see something in the darkness out there. Sho waited. Rei hadn’t moved yet; things probably weren’t that bad.

Rei put a hand on Sho, pulling Sho’s attention to him. “We should close the storm shutters for good measure,” Rei said, still staring into the distance.

“Like, now?”

Rei nodded. As he stood up with Sho, Rei began to stare at the water beneath the walkway and backed into Sho, pushing him into the house without looking at him. Once indoors, Rei had a stern expression on his face as he wordlessly slid the shutters outside of the house close, sealing the front.

“Rei? What’s wrong?” Sho asked, perplexed by Rei’s sudden austerity.

Eyes glued to the shuttered entrance, Rei barely moved as he said, “Don’t go out when it’s raining.”

“That’s a lot of don'ts coming from you tonight,” Sho muttered, folding his arms as he raised an aloof brow.

“I’m trying to keep you alive,” Rei stressed, frowning slightly as he continued watching the shutters.

“It’s just a storm, isn’t it?” Sho asked.

A worried frown on his face, Rei’s lips were pressed into a thin line as he thought about it. “I hope so…”

“If it’s anything worse, there’s nothing we can do about it anyway,” Sho concluded, sitting down in front of the hearth with his legs crossed. “Sit with me,” he said, patting the space next to him.

As Rei slowly turned away from the shutters, his eyes darted between Sho and the entrance, still wary in his reluctant retreat. Even when he sat down next to Sho and leaned against him, Rei continued to watch the door.

“I’m sure the shutters will hold,” Sho said, casting a sidelong glance at Rei. “Besides, even without me, you can still get off this island on your own with the boat, the compass and the other things in the chest. You don’t need me,” he reasoned.

“Don’t say that,” Rei muttered angrily, offended. He spun around. “What makes you think that-”

The smile on Sho’s face caught Rei off guard, causing the break in his words. Realising that Sho didn’t mean what he said, Rei felt heat rise to his face and he quickly turned back around. “Don’t tease me,” he muttered.

Rei felt Sho’s shoulders shake as he laughed silently. Feeling movement around his waist, Rei looked down and found Sho’s arm around him, holding him. Rei was surprised. Sho was almost never this forward with his actions. His initiative made Rei smile.

Sho felt Rei’s cool fingers slowly curl around his hand, his movements slow as if shy as their fingers interlocked. Tightening his hold around Rei, Sho let out a long sigh and felt the tension he didn’t even know he had leave his body. Rei leaned back into Sho more as he shifted, turning away from the hearth to face Sho’s direction.

As the wind outside started howling and rattling the shutters, Rei reached for Sho with his other hand, fingers grazing Sho’s jaw as Rei drew him into a kiss. This time, Sho was ready to respond, parting his lips as they met. Rei’s desires grew and he slid into Sho’s lap, gently grinding against Sho while his arms encircled Sho’s body and his hands wandered, feeling the contours of this body that Rei had become familiar with.

Sho wrapped his arms around Rei, one hand around the nape of his neck and the other on the small of his back, supporting his body. As his fingertips scratched at Rei’s neck, Rei made a soft noise, moaning and pressing closer to Sho. He then caught the fabric of Sho’s robes as if eager to rip it off. Rei’s enthusiasm aroused Sho, encouraging him to deepen their kiss as his hand slid lower, approaching Rei’s hips. Just then, Rei gasped and recoiled, breaking away from Sho.

“What? What’s wrong?” Sho asked, perplexed by Rei’s sudden baulking.

“Sho, I… I can’t, I’m sorry,” Rei muttered quickly, looking everywhere except for Sho. He now sat a distance away from Sho, legs tucked under him.

Sho slowly approached him. “Rei?” He carefully reached for Rei’s hand, taking it in his own. Thankfully, Rei didn’t pull away. It was not him that was the issue then. “Rei, what’s wrong?”

Rei looked at Sho warily, a measure of fear in his eyes. “I… It’s…” His sentences were halting, starting and stopping as if he was struggling to find the words for himself.

“Did someone hurt you before?” Sho asked, trying to find a plausible reason for Rei’s discomfort.

“No! No, it’s not like that!” Rei exclaimed, aghast at the mere thought of it.

“Is it… me-”

Rei rushed forward, closing the gap between Sho and himself. “Even further from the truth,” he breathed, desperation in his voice. Rei’s hands were on Sho again, stroking his face as he closed his eyes and pressed his forehead to Sho’s, a furrow between his brows. “If only you knew how much I…”

“Hm?” Sho pushed back against Rei, a light headbutt. As Rei looked at him with his doleful eyes, Sho chuckled with a resigned sigh and got up. “Fine, I guess there’s no going any further then.”

“Huh?” Rei stared as Sho walked off and tucked himself in under the blankets. “You’re just-”

“Going to bed,” Sho finished, grunting as he turned to lie on his side. “Otherwise you’ll just leave me with a serious case of blue balls.”

Just as Sho was getting comfortable, he felt the covers fly off him and a hand grab his shoulder to turn him back around. Lying flat on his back, Sho was pinned down by Rei who had a solemn expression on his face as he held up two fingers before Sho.

“Two things,” Rei announced. “One, no looking. Two, no touching.”

“Huh?” Sho gave him an incredulous look. “What the hell am I supposed to do then?”

Rei’s lips stretched into a sly smile. Sticking his index finger out, Rei planted it on Sho’s bare chest between the opening of his robes and slowly dragged it down his torso, loosening the fabric slightly until he stopped at the belt that kept Sho’s robes folded close.

“You can just lie here and relax,” he said, smirking as he tugged the belt loose and brought the long strip of fabric over Sho’s eyes.

“Wait, are you seriously doing this?” Sho asked as the belt, now a blindfold for him, was fastened. “But why?”

Sho could still feel Rei on him, now rubbing a hand over his exposed torso, making him shiver involuntarily. Unable to see, Sho tried to sit up and grab hold of Rei but he was pushed back down. He heard a rustle that could only come from the fabric of Rei’s robes. Sho then felt Rei’s chilly hands taking hold of his wrists, bringing them above Sho’s head as he tied them together, supposedly with the belt from Rei’s own robes.

“I said no touching,” Rei whispered into Sho’s ear as he drew away.

Sho cleared his throat, unable to respond. The thought of Rei body now bare before him turned him on and Rei clearly noticed this as his fingers close around his phallus, growing harder under Rei’s touch. There was a puff of warm air on Sho’s chest as Rei chuckled at Sho’s shallow breaths.

A wet flick at his nipple made Sho gasp. Rei’s lips were on his chest, kissing Sho’s skin then moving back to suck at his nipples. Being unable to see intensified the sensations for Sho. With Rei’s languid stroking of his erection and playful teasing of his torso, Sho’s huffing turned to low groans.

Sho felt Rei’s weight on him as he leaned forward and pressed his body against him. He had held Rei as they slept many times before, but this was the first time they were lying skin-to-skin and the deep intimacy that they shared brought a surge of warmth in him. Feeling a strong desire to hold Rei in his arms, Sho tugged at his restraints restlessly.

As Rei’s fingers continued stroking Sho’s erection with an irregular rhythm, Rei brought his other hand up to Sho’s arms, his touch bringing stillness to Sho’s struggling. With another frustrated groan, Sho moaned breathlessly, “Rei…”

“Sho…” Rei returned his call. Sho felt Rei nuzzle in the crook of his neck, planting soft kisses as he did. “Sho… may I put you in me?” Rei asked as he proceeded to suck on Sho’s ear lobe.

Breathlessly, Sho whispered, “Please do…”

Rei’s giggle sounded oh-so-pleasant as he drew away again and Sho let out a long frustrated sigh from the loss of physical contact. He felt Rei’s precum-slicked hand trailing cold lines on his thighs as his other hand stroked his face.

Then, a soft sigh came from Rei and Sho felt his legs on either side of him, straddling him. It suddenly occurred to Sho that Rei had always kept his legs together, even when asleep. He had never even entangled his legs with Sho’s before.

Sho felt Rei holding his erection, stroking him again as he raised himself above Sho and adjusted his position. All at once, Sho felt heat envelop him and Rei released a blissful sound, between a sigh and a moan. The soft skin of Rei’s legs gripped Sho’s torso as he began to move up and down, moaning each time he sank down onto Sho.

Arching his back, Sho tugged at his restraints again, eager to return Rei’s affections. With a frustrated groan and a firm tug, they finally came loose and Sho pushed himself up, wrapping his arms around Rei’s torso and trailing kisses on his body.

Rei yelped, or rather, he tried to as a whine escaped his lips. “No! Don’t!” He pushed uselessly against Sho, torn between enjoying Sho’s loving and his anxiety.

Sho felt Rei nibbling on his shoulder and neck, clearly enjoying their close proximity despite his protests. “Rei, tell me,” Sho whispered, almost breathless from pleasure. “Tell me where to touch you.”

“Sho!” Rei jerked, grinding his erection against Sho’s lower body. “Sho! Just… not…” His words ended in shallow panting and a restrained moan as Rei tried to control his vocal cords. Unable to speak, Rei instead took Sho’s hands in his and guided his hands, letting them glide from just above his navel, across his chest, and back up to his neck and face.

Hearing Rei’s soft moans as he brought his hands to explore his body, Sho couldn’t resist sticking his fingers into Rei’s open mouth. Rei readily sucked on Sho’s fingers, moaning with renewed gusto as Sho teased his sensitive nipples.

Distracted by Sho’s fingers and tongue, Rei all but stopped riding Sho. Deciding to take over, Sho removed his fingers from Rei’s mouth and held him tight as he brought Rei to the floor, positioning under him. Nudging at his blindfold with his shoulder, Sho managed to bring sight back into one eye.

As his blurry vision adjusted to the reintroduction of light, Rei’s flushed and distressed face came into focus and Rei pushed his hands to Sho’s face. “No! Don’t look!” he moaned, both aroused and upset at the same time. “I beg you! Please don’t look down!”

Rei’s pleading tugged at Sho’s heart, making it ache. He couldn’t understand Rei’s discomfort but he could comply with Rei’s wishes. Crouching down, close to Rei, Sho looked at him in the eyes and said, “I won’t. I promise you I’ll do as you ask. All I want is to see your beautiful face, and to know I’m not hurting you.”

“Sho…” Rei was close to tears. As his hands reluctantly shifted away from Sho’s eyes to caress his jaw, Rei drew Sho into another kiss, wordlessly giving Sho his permission to go on as he is.

Hugging Rei, Sho began thrusting into him. Rei moaned and writhed under Sho as he felt the pleasure intensify. True to his word, Sho kept his eye on Rei’s face, forcing himself from looking elsewhere. Closing his eye, Sho pressed his face into Rei’s skin, nuzzling against his neck and shoulders as Sho, too, felt a swell of pleasure building in him.

With Sho in reach, Rei bit down on his shoulder, stifling his moans as he came. Listening to Rei’s constant murmuring of his name, Sho felt his own pleasure overwhelm him, making him gasp as he quickly pulled out and spilt his ejaculation over Rei’s thighs.

Propping himself up on one arm, Sho shared a moment with Rei, looking at each other for a long while before he blinked and looked away, snapping out of his trance as he pulled off his makeshift blindfold. “I’m… sorry… for the mess,” he muttered, choosing to stare at the dying embers in the hearth, suddenly feeling awkward. He had never actually done it with a man before, after all.

Rei moved and Sho felt a kiss on his cheek followed by a hand caressing it. “Thank you,” Rei whispered.

Keeping to what he said, Sho continued staring at the fire, only grunting to acknowledge Rei’s appreciation as he slowly stood up and left to clean up. Left to himself, Sho found himself stuck with his feelings, unsure of how he truly felt, and unsure if he was just a passing fancy for Rei. He could hear the beginnings of a storm outside as the wind continued to rattle the storm shutters, imitating his inner turmoil in sound.

Cool fingers touching his cheek brought Sho back to reality and he looked up at Rei. He had a soft smile on his face, one resembling contentment. Aside from that, he looked the same as usual, as if nothing had happened.

Understanding his cue, Sho nodded and got up, taking his turn to clean up. When he came back, Sho found Rei settled in the bed, staring at the shutters with a pensive expression as he waited for Sho. Noticing Sho’s return, Rei cast that expression aside and welcomed him back with a warm smile and open arms. Sho returned the smile and settled in with Rei, letting him rest on his chest as they slowly drifted to sleep.

It felt like time barely passed when Sho woke suddenly to the rumble of distant thunder. It was still dark. The fire was now even dimmer than when they fell asleep though. Rei was fast asleep on him, but the blanket has somehow been tossed aside. When Rei murmured something and shifted, a glint of light caught his eye. Sho’s eyes were naturally drawn to it, to what he now realised was Rei’s leg sticking out from under his robes and entwined with his own legs.

Frowning, Sho stared at the gleam in the dark. It reminded him of the iridescence from Rei’s robes under sunlight, only that it was now on his skin. He shook his head in small movements, careful to not wake Rei. His mind was still much too bogged down by sleep. Moving carefully so as to not wake Rei by accident, Sho reached for the blankets and covered both of them with it again. Once warm and comfortable, it didn’t take long for Sho to fall back asleep with his face in Rei’s long dark hair.
